Fall 2020 RRCU Chronicle

International Credit Union Day
On October 15, 2020, Red River Credit Union will join with 56,000 credit unions around the world in celebration of International Credit Union (ICU) Day®. There are 200+ million credit union members around the world—more than 100 million in the U.S. alone—and RRCU joins them in celebration of the not-for-profit cooperative spirit that all credit unions share.
Each year we come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) to raise awareness about what it means for members around the world to have a credit union as their financial partner. This year's global health crisis has been trying for many communities around the world, but credit unions stayed true to their cooperative principles and stepped up during this time of economic uncertainty. Hope is a global resource that everyone has a right to feel and experience. This year's ICU Day theme “Inspiring hope for a global community” reflects how credit unions contribute to a brighter future by providing financial empowerment to people all over the world through financial services, education and support.
Our Summerhill Road branch in Texarkana, Texas will hold a shredding event from 2PM-5PM on October 15th. We hope you'll join us and shred all your outdated and unneeded documents. Shredding services provided by Sustainable Services.

Holiday Loans are Here Again
The holidays can be stressful, especially with a pandemic. Some may be tempted to get a payday or title loan to help cover expenses, but those loan types are most often very expensive. After you add up how much interest and/or fees you'd pay with a payday or title loan, we are confident you'll opt for a Holiday Loan from Red River Credit Union instead. Now through December 31st, you can apply for a Holiday Loan from Red River Credit Union online (here), use our mobile app, in person, or call direct at 903-735-3149. We are looking forward to making your holidays brighter.
2020-2021 Student Tellers
We’re all wired differently. Our passions, our fears, and our dreams are different. When we hear the word money, we all have unique thoughts and emotions too. It’s all about the behaviors and attitudes that we practice with money to determine whether we are building wealth or living paycheck to paycheck. What are you doing to make sure children and teens are learning to practice good behaviors that are related to money? What is RRCU doing to teach this to the youth of our service areas? To start, we have three Student Kiosk Branches, within our high schools, where students are able to open their own Varsity Account with RRCU. We hire students to be employed at these kiosks and process the transactions daily during lunch and before school. Students must be a junior or senior to apply and at each school location there may be other qualifications, such as being a part of the DECA program. Introducing to you our new student tellers for this school year: JaKeidon Brown – Liberty Eylau High School, Mya Ragland- Arkansas High School and Kandee Arnett- Texas High School. Returning from last school year: Katarina Jordan – Texas High School and Tanya Asencio – Liberty Eylau High School.
Support for Internet Explorer Has Ended
On October 6th, Red River Credit Union is ending support of Internet Explorer. The reason is Microsoft, the maker of Internet Explorer, stopped updating the browser over 3 years ago, meaning it’s no longer meeting modern standards for security or user experience. We take security very seriously, so we’re ending our support for this aging browser. This means that any of our account holders still using Internet Explorer will need to switch to a new browser to access Online Banking.
Internet Explorer users will see a notification as they log in to Online Banking. Modern, secure browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Safari are free and easy to download; and you may even have another on your computer already. Simply use one of these browsers to log in to Online Banking. It’s that easy. It’s also safer and faster, and you’ll notice a better user experience.
Fraud Alerts and Tips Center
Did you know we have a Fraud Alerts and Tips Center on our Website?
Fraud is everywhere and often fraudsters try to gain access to your information and money when you least expect it. To help you fight fraud, we offer a General Fraud Alerts and Tips page found Here or search "fraud" on our website. To avoid scams in general, follow these guidelines for every account in your name, not just banking:
-
Stay vigilant and never share your passwords or PINs with anyone, including a relative or RRCU representative. An RRCU employee may only reset your password or PIN, not collect the information.
-
Always cover your hand when entering your Personal Identification Number (PIN) or password.
-
Review your accounts often to identify and report unauthorized transactions.
-
Stay up to date on new techniques being used by criminals (https://www.consumer.ftc.gov has some great information and alerts).
Reminder: To enhance security with online banking, users may be prompted to change their current password.
Odds and Ends

Check Reorders
When ordering checks through an outside source, the account number must be listed a specific way; it is not just the member number. Account number format is 010XXXXXX0 (Xs are the member number). If the member number is less than 6 digits, extra 0s will go in front of the member number (ex. Member number 1234 would be 0100012340 on the check account line). If a member has multiple checking accounts under one membership, the 010 may be 020 and so on. In this case, please ask a branch representative to confirm the correct account number listing. Remember check numbering must end at 8999, then restart numbering.
